GA meeting Monday February 13, 2012 @ 9:00 am

Item to discuss: Parkside Home Renovation

The County and Team Port Charlotte is seeking our guidance and requesting that we take control of the project. Utilizing members, we would select a contractor to rehab one of these houses and using member subs, we would bring the house to habitable condition with the intent of a low-income end user purchasing the home. There are some grants and federal monies available and Bob Hebert with the County can help us tap us into this. The County would retain ownership of the building and it would be available for one year to use an example of the potential of these older houses.

At the last CDBIA board meeting it was decided to put together a committee to investigate this further.

If you are interested in learning more and or participating in the preliminary discussions please attend this meeting.
Please RSVP to Leslie at the CDBIA office if you plan to attend.

For more information contact GA chairman Suzanne Graham at suzanne@suzanne-graham.com or 941-628-4216.

Hello Members,

OH BOY do we have a lot going on!!!

The Membership Committee is all over town promoting membership and member business at Expos and Home Shows.

The Charlotte Harbor Challenge is now scheduled for June 30th. We need committee members (anglers with input preferred) and sponsors. Click here for the 2012 Sponsorship Packet.

The Sales and Marketing Council is getting ramped up to start the new year off right. We will be having a meeting here at the CDBIA Office on Wednesday February 22nd. Let me know if you plan to attend.

We are working on a brand new home show for November 10 & 11 at the Charlotte Harbor Event Center. Booths will about HALF of what the Home & Garden show is charging. Let me know right away if you have any interest or if you would like to be part of this committee. I think this show is going to fill up fast.

Do you have a model? Email me the location. I am working on a map to have on our website to get consumers to your models. At some point we would like to bring back the Parade of Homes. This gives us the opportunity to start small and build it until we are ready to have a full blown Parade.

Don't forget you member benefits at state and national. FHBA has sample contracts and National offers free legal advice for members. If you need help with these items, please give me a call and I can help.

Looking for the jobs to bid on? I try not to bombard you with emails, so always be sure to keep an eye on the county website at
http://www2.charlottefl.com/outreach/purchasing/bids//

We are also going to have many opportunities for networking this year for our members so come out to the meetings if you're a member, bring someone who is not a member and get them to join us. Here is a link to the 2012 Calendar of Events so far. Stay tuned, there is a lot more to come!

As always, if you have any suggestions or input, we would love to hear from you!

Cheers!
Leslie

Hello Members,

I hope your New Year is starting off great.

The membership committee is making huge strides already in membership recruitment, retention and not to mention, our participation in trade shows and other events is helping promote the BIA and its members.

“MEMBERS DOING BUSINESS WITH MEMBERS” This is one of the benefits we all expect when joining the BIA. Refer to the on-line or printed version of the member directory before calling a non-member. If you don’t find what you need within the membership and have to go elsewhere then try to get that business to become a member. Chances are if you need those services other members will probably use them too.  It’s a win/win for everyone.

“MEMBERSHIP CHALLENGE” Who’s up for a challenge?  Who’s going to rise up and show the whole membership that you have the desire to see the BIA grow and not let the same people get the spotlight all the time?  All it takes is to recruit one (or more) new member(s) throughout the entire year.  If we all commit, we can potentially double our membership, increase our networking and create new customers/jobs for everyone.

When you join the CDBIA you are also a member of the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION of HOME BUILDERS and the FLORIDA HOME BUILDERS ASSOCIATION which you are entitled to many discounts and benefits. The membership committee is putting together our own MEMBER-TO-MEMBER DISCOUNT PROGRAM.  This is going to be another benefit of being a member, in that this is exclusive within the BIA. The details are almost complete. If you’d like to participate in this program let me know and we’ll put you on the list.

If you have any questions or ideas of what you’d like to see within the BIA please call me at
941-624-4040 or shoot me an email at suncoast_glass@yahoo.com.

I’d like to say thanks to Alyson Burch with the Charlotte State Bank for sponsoring our membership committee meeting and letting us use their boardroom at the Punta Gorda office.

Another thanks to Don Deweese for the donation of a vacuum cleaner and much needed ladder at the BIA office.

Thank you Nancy Hyndman for sponsoring our last morning membership committee meeting.

I hope to see many of you at the INTERNATIONAL BUILDERS SHOW!

Check out what the CDBIA has been up to: Updating our website with articles on the Consumer Resources page of "What Handymen Can and Can NOT Do" and "Checklist for Finding and Hiring a Builder or Remodeler." The New membership directory and articles have created quite a buzz in the community and the phones have been ringing for referrals. Also, click on our list of accomplishments and what we are working on for the coming year.

The FBA Advisory Council is raising money to supply hooded sweatshirts for the students of Charlotte Technical Center in the FBA program. Each sweatshirt will have the students name on it as well as the CDBIA Logo. We want to send our students to camp with pride. Our goal is to have the sweatshirts by the time we attend the FBA Leadership Camp in the first week of March.  So far we have sold 30 hats and raised $600 towards the sweatshirts. We have 45 left for sale at $20 each. Please let Beth Cantin or Leslie know if you would like one of these custom designed CDBIA/FBA hats. Thanks to all of you that already bought a hat at our installation banquet.
If you are interested in being a sponsor of the FBA Camp, please download the form here.
